Disney Plus price are changing very soon, increasing from £5.99 per month and £59.99 per year to £7.99 per month and £79.90 per year for all new subscribers on 23 February 2021. Existing subscribers won’t have to pay the new prices until 23 August 2021.
The price increase reflects the addition of Star, a new brand on Disney+ that will be bringing Hulu content to the platform, plus a whole host of new movies such as Deadpool, The X Files and 24 – shows and films that weren’t on the site before due to Disney not allowing anything past a 12 rating.
Whilst this is an exciting addition, the price increase won’t be a joy for many. However, never fear – you still have some time to dodge it. We’ve rounded up all the options you can try to keep costs down.
Buy a 12-month Disney+ gift subscription
The best way to save money ahead of the Disney Plus price hike is to buy a 12-month gift subscription for yourself.
Gift subscriptions can be activated at any time. Therefore, if you already subscribe to Disney Plus you can buy a gift card now, continue to pay the lower prices until 23 August 2021 (when the new prices come into effect for current subscribers) and then activate it at a later day.
Here’s what you’ll need to do before 23 February 2021:
- Head to the Disney Plus gift subscription page
- Enter the recipient’s name and email address – make sure it’s an address not registered with the site already as it only applies to new customers
- Purchase the 12-month subscription for £59.99
- Once the gift card arrives in your inbox, don’t activate it until you wish to
- You can continue to pay £5.99 per month until 23 August 2021 should you wish
- When you want to use the gift card, sign up for a brand-new Disney+ account using the gift card as your payment option
Buy an annual subscription
If you’d rather keep the same Disney Plus account (or your a brand new subscriber), then your best option is to buy or renew your account with an annual subscription before 23 February.
Like the gift card, an annual subscription costs £59.99. If you’re a new subscriber, you can sign up for this on the Disney+ website.
If you need to renew, take the following steps:
- Open the Disney+ website in your browser
- Click on the profile icon on the right hand side and tap ‘Account’ on the drop-down menu
- Follow the steps to manage your account and change your subscription – this will be different depending on how you pay for Disney+
Bundle in Disney+ with a phone contract
Another way to keep costs down with your streaming subscription is to bundle in Disney+ with a phone contract. If you’re already due to renew your phone, O2 has offers on both SIM-only contracts and standard handset contracts for both six month and twelve month deals for Disney Plus.
You can also check out other ways to get a discount on Disney Plus.
Cancel your subscription altogether
If none of these options are suitable for you, then you can cancel your account with Disney Plus altogether. You can always re-join further down the line if a show/movie you’re desperate to watch becomes available on the platform.
- Here’s what you need to do to cancel a subscription:
- Open the Disney+ website in your browser
- Click on the profile icon on the right hand side and tap ‘Account’ on the drop-down menu
- Follow the steps to manage your account and cancel your subscription
