LG’s Entire Gram Range Now Has 16:10 Displays and Latest Intel Chips

CES 2021 might be just around the corner, but a number brands are unveiling new products ahead of the big virtual event in Las Vegas.

Among them is LG, with the Korean company debuting its new five-strong Gram range of laptops. The devices are available in 14in, 16in and 17in models, with convertible options also available in the two smaller sizes.

LG has kept design changes to a minimum, although the entire range now supports a taller 16:10 aspect ratio. This slightly taller display allows for more screen real estate, as has been used to good effect on the late 2020 Dell XPS 13. Both 14in models come with 1920×1200 screens, while the other devices step up to 2560×1600.

Another thing all Gram laptops share with the XPS 13 is Intel’s latest 11th-gen processors, which are said to deliver improvements to both performance and power efficiency. LG hasn’t specified which tier of processor each laptop will use, but judging from its 2020 lineup we’d expect i5 and i7 models to be available once again.

The big attraction of the LG Gram is the ability to pack premium specs into an incredibly lightweight body, and that’s no different here. At under 1kg, the 14in model is one of the lightest laptops you can buy, while even the 17in device comes in at just 1.35kg.

Battery life is another area where LG is expected to excel, although capacities are unchanged from the 2020 models. That means the smallest two models come with 72Wh cells, while larger screens merit an increase to 80Wh. LG claims the latter will get you up to 19.5 hours of battery life, and its strong performance in our testing of the 2020 Gram 17 gives us no reason to doubt this.

The additional functionality on 14in and 16in 2-in-1s comes in the form of a 360-degree hinge and stylus for additional functionality.

All this means the full Gram 2021 range is included in Intel’s Evo Platform, designed to highlight premium devices that offer great performance, battery life and connectivity. That suggests they’ll command a high asking price, although this is yet to be confirmed. We also don’t know when the devices will be coming to the UK, but we’ll update this article as soon as we know more.

You can learn more about the new Gram range at LG’s CES 2021 press conference, scheduled for 11 January. Here’s how to watch the event live
