Disney Plus UK Subscribers Will Face A Price Increase This Year

Subscribers to Disney Plus in the UK will soon have to pay more for their streaming, with monthly subscriptions changing from £5.99 per month to £7.99 per month, and annual subscriptions moving from £59.99 to £79.90.

The price increase is due to the addition of Star, a new ‘brand’ that will add adult TV programming to the Disney+ library. It’s the international equivalent of Hulu, a separate streaming platform that’s available in the US.

Star will become available in the UK from 23 February 2021 and will be added to the platform automatically. Fortunately, the price increase won’t take hold immediately for those who are already subscribed.

Disney has confirmed that existing subscribers in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada won’t have to pay the new prices until 23 August 2021, giving Star for six months at no additional cost. However, new subscribers after 23 February will have to pay the higher priced subscription.

Shows coming to Star on Disney Plus at launch include The X-Files, How I Met Your Mother, Lost, Atlanta and Desperate Housewives. There will also be a selection of originals, including brand new thriller Big Sky and Love, Victor, a follow-up to the popular film Love, Simon.

Sadly, there is no way to opt out of having Star on Disney Plus to keep your subscription prices the same. Therefore, if you want to save money and can afford to commit to an upfront cost, we recommend purchasing the annual £59.99 plan in August 2021, just before the prices change.

There’s also the option to bundle in Disney Plus with existing subscriptions. If you opt for a mobile plan with O2, you can get the service for both six and twelve months depending on the plan you choose. You can check out more deals in our explainer on how to get Disney+ for free.
